The University of Tennessee procures aviation insurance policies through the State of Tennessee yearly. We have acquired three separate types of policies. The three types are:

  1. Aviation
  2. Incidental Non-Owned Aircraft Liability
  3. Drone
    • The state provides liability insurance for all scheduled drones. According to Safety Policy SA0950 – Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) “university units must notify the Office of Risk Management about Unmanned Aircraft Systems purchased with University funds.” Please fill out the Unmanned Aircraft System Insurance Request form upon purchase of a drone and email, fax, or mail the completed form back to the Office of Risk Management. If the completed Unmanned Aircraft Systems Insurance Request Form is not recieved, your drone will not be registered or have liability insurance coverage.
      • Please be aware of the drone weight limit. There is a provision on the drone policy that excludes liability coverage for drones that weigh over 55lbs (including their payload).
    • If you are interested in physical damage coverage for your drone or insurance coverage for property of others while attached to a UT drone, please contact the System Office of Risk Management.
    • For more information regarding the operation and purchase of a UAS please refer to SA0950 – Unmanned Aircraft Systems.

Please contact the Office of Risk Management for more specifics on coverage, limits, and exclusions.
