As an integral part of the University of Tennessee System, the Office of Risk Management supports the goals of education, discovery, outreach and public service at the university by identifying, analyzing, controlling, and financing the university’s risk with the ultimate goal of efficiently protecting the university’s assets and integrity.

In order to accomplish this mission, the Office of Risk Management maintains a staff of professional employees who are knowledgeable of the University’s policies, procedures and operations on both the system and campus level. As a system function, the Office of Risk Management is the liaison between the University of Tennessee campuses, the State’s Treasury Division of Claims and Risk Management in Nashville, CorVel (the third-party administrator for the University’s workers’ compensation coverage), Belfor (the State’s contract for remediation) and other third-party insurance carriers.

The office provides services for workers’ compensation, automobile claims, property claims, third party claims, contractual review, insurance acquisition, policy review, loss prevention, consultative services, and review of certificates of insurance. In addition to these services, we also work with all campuses and departments to provide education so they can become a part of the risk process. We work to engage each department so they can identify, analyze, and control the risk of loss for their specific areas because everyone is a Risk Manager.
