Although The University of Tennessee carries property insurance to cover losses to university-owned or leased property and contents, there are limitations. Departments may opt to insure high-value equipment through UT’s Inland Marine policy, especially when damage or loss would affect a department’s operation.

If the value of your item exceeds $25,000, and it meets any of the below criteria, then you may want to insure it through the Inland Marine policy.

• Remains more than 1,000 feet away from a UT property
• Is financed or on loan to your department
• Will be in transit by motor carrier, railroad, or air carrier,

This insurance does not apply to the personal property of an employee, student, or visitor of the University.

If a quote or coverage is needed, please complete the online Inland Marine Insurance Request form at least 10 days ahead of the desired coverage effective date.
